Falling Through The Cracks

It wasn't supposed to be this way - my life.
But then I also believe that everything happens for a reason and God oversees everything, so I guess everything was meant to happen. Doesn't mean I have to be happy about it, but with God's love and Jesus by my side, at least I can accept it.

What I DO find hard to accept is that we have become a nation that doesn't care about the quality of our fellow human being's lives. We are dispensable, having no worth without a lot of money and with the economy in the dumper like it is, folks like me are just a step away from homelessness.

I found out yesterday that here in Washington state welfare, (DSHS), has stopped cash benefits for a super large population of people - such as those that have been diagnosed as unable to work because to mental/emotional problems. They were getting $197 a month, now they get zero. Washington, like most other states I imagine, are cutting programs left and right for the poor, elderly and handicapped.

What are these people to do?

Does anyone care?

Does tending to the needs of the poor now become the duty of the church?
